there are no cats in america / and the streets are paved with cheese

I've come to the conclusion that I am actually just a big kid. I once did an online quiz to find out how old my inner child was, and got the result 10 years old. Despite the fact that that was several years ago now, I don't think inner children age at the same rate that you yourself do.

For example; on my birthday the other week, I went to the pub with some friends and then back to one of their flats. Getting drunk obviously isn't a childish thing to do, however getting drunk and deciding to watch Count Duckula? Oh yeah. I loved that show when I was younger, and seeing as Pix has the first two (?) series on DVD, we have spent several hours watching it. Good times!

I defy you not to get the theme tune stuck in your head after watching that~

Further proof: I asked for The Land Before Time for my birthday, and my nan got it for me ^_^ Of course, this resulted in a lot of odd looks from various family members when they asked what I got and I explained. But still, it's a good film! It was one of my faves as a kid and having watched it the other day, I can safely say it is still a favourite. It's such so sweet and sad and...educational? Perhaps. And Cera majorly reminded me of a 'friend' I had at school; the similarities are pretty freaky.

And on the subject of my DVD collection...looking at my DVD shelf, I can see: The Emperor's New Groove; Kronk's New Groove (yep, that's the little-known sequel to ENG); The Land Before Time; The Little Mermaid; Tales From The NeverEnding Story and The Road to El Dorado. Of course, there are others (such as Bugsy Malone; Oliver!; Hot Fuzz and Silence of the Lambs to name a few) plus I have a load of not!kid's films back home, but as you can see, it's mostly the kiddie films that I brought with me to uni, as they are the ones I enjoy watching the most. There's not really much hope for me, is there? XD

To anyone who can guess what film (yes, it is a kid's film) my post title is from, you can have a virtual cookie ^_^

So apparently a bunch of people in the English department/lessons didn't know anything about Cultural Exchanges being next week. Meaning both the poetry and novel tutors have workshops planned out for next week. That'll be interesting, seeing as some of us (i.e. the creative writers) were under the impression that all our classes were cancelled next week so that we could attend the various talks and stuff.

The organisational skills leave me in awe, srsly. I thought this sort of thing only happened at school, not at uni. *sigh* I really hope someone sorts this out, I hate having to miss class because catching up on the work you've missed is so tedious! But it's not like we can just skip cultural exchanges either...le'sigh.

got dizzy dancing tango

I miss dancing. I was writing about it earlier in class, plus since I got home every other song that's played on itunes has been one that I used to dance to. Ho hum!

Oh and thanks to the people that commented on my first post ^_^ I've yet to work out how to reply to people individually (in fact I have a sneaking suspicion that you CAN'T, reason number-I've-lost-count why LJ > blogger : ). Oh and Pru - stop being so damn competitive! They're just cats!

And in an attempt to make my blog more interesting, I will give you (i.e. the people who have stumbled across this blog) a review on one of my favourite books. Hopefully it will encourage you to read it, because it is awesome.

Pat Barker: The Regeneration Trilogy - It has young men in uniform, blood, gore, het sex AND gay sex(*). What's not to like!?

(*) NB/ Not all at the same time. And if this note puts you off reading it, there's something wrong with you.

The obligatory I-don't-know-what-to-put first post...

Because no one ever knows what to write in the opening post, I thought I'd start with a picture.

In the (slightly modified) words of Ricky Gervais(*) ~ I'm Laney, and this is my cat:

I don't know what else to put ^_^
